I noticed the title of your weblog. I thought perhaps you might want to go a little further back in history than 1517. You might want to go to the writings of the first generation of Christians who learned at the feet of the Apostles. Usually in a volume entitled “The Apostolic Fathers” are found among others, Clement of Rome, Ignatius of Antioch, and the Didache. Also near this time period are writers including Justin Martyr, Irenaeus of Lyons, and a little later was Eusebius, the first to write a history of the Church to cover the time from the Book of Acts through I think the early 300’s AD. You will find this material to be golden and very eye opening. Make sure to read the first person sources and not a book of excerpts or a book about these writers. The writings themselves in total are what really open our eyes to what the early Church taught and believed.
